| This exhibition presents large scale and
sublime color panoramas of anonymous
individuals standing at the ocean’s edge.
About the artist: Jim Vecchi holds a Master of Fine Arts from Stanford University and a Bachelor of Science from Carnegie Mellon University. He has taught at Stanford University, the San Francisco Art Institute, Cabrillo College, Monterey Peninsula College, the Instituto De Bellas Artes and Universidad Nacional in Medellin, Colombia and the Oregon School of Arts & Crafts in Portland. Vecchi has had solo exhibitions at the Lianzhou International Photo Festival, China; Foto & Photo Festivale Internazionale, Milan; the Internationale Fototage, Germany and at festivals, museums and commercial galleries in Italy, Colombia, India and throughout the United States; and participated in numerous group exhibitions in the United States and in Italy, France, Poland and Germany. His photographs are held in the collections of the Victoria and Albert Museum, London; Houston Museum of Fine Arts; Lianzhou Museum, China; Musee De La Photographie, Belgium; Museet for Fotokunst, Denmark; the Santa Barbara Museum of Art; the Southeast Museum of Photography, Florida and in numerous private collections. His works have been published in Blue Sky Journal, Photo Metro; Fotopractica and Popular Photography. Witness to Infinity was completed in 2002 along the coast of central Florida, principally in the New Smyrna Beach area, while Vecchi was a resident artist at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. “My artworks are a reflection of my ongoing search for meaning. I rely on beauty and the act of seeing to explore, question, and reinterpret the way that we perceive the world. For many years I lived near the ocean. It heartened me to watch the common ritual performed by individuals as they approached the water’s edge.” -Jim Vecchi. Vecchi lives in Cortona, Italy and is represented by Corbis Images. About the Prints: The large banners images are solvent-based ink-jet prints on vinyl substrate. Other exhibition prints are pigment ink-jet on paper.
