Meets three consecutive Saturdays in May from 6:00pm – 9:30pm. Please note: This class will require travel. Locations to be announced.
     Saturday, May 5, 2012
     Saturday, May 12, 2012
     Saturday, May 19, 2012

Practicing long exposure photography is a great exercise for individuals who want to perceive the world in new ways. Learn how to blur and soften the motion of water, to elicit dramatic effects and reveal shadow details, and capture the paths of stars as they trail across the night sky. Although advancements in image sensor technology have made shooting in low-light or nighttime conditions a far more successful undertaking, the practice still requires a studied approach and the application of specific techniques. Under guided instruction, learn to bracket within a range of exposure times and for various outdoor conditions, to understand focus options and the potential use of flash, as well as to apply the optimal ISO settings to reduce image noise.

Saturday, May 5, 6:00pm – 9:30pm
This evening’s introductory meeting will begin with an orientation session to cover proper camera techniques, the “how to’s” of prepping equipment for shooting in the field, and basic night safety issues. The group will then relocate outside to record nighttime imagery at the International Motorsports Center (IMC) here in Daytona Beach.

Saturday, May 12, 6:00pm – 9:30pm
Continue shooting in low-light conditions on location.

Saturday, May 19, 6:00pm – 9:30pm
Continue to practice shooting in low-light conditions on-location. A special classroom critique session will help you identify your strengths and weaknesses, and to evaluate your work within the context of setting personal goals.

All full-day Saturday workshops include a half hour lunch break (participants should bring a bag lunch). Registration and payment can be made at the Museum reception desk in building 1200 during regular gallery hours.

For more information about adult community workshops, please e-mail Christina Katsolis or call (386) 506-4569.
